65-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Birmingham

We supported the refinance of a 65-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Birmingham, located less than five minutes from the University of Birmingham campus. The borrower had successfully completed the development and was seeking to exit their existing development facility, refinance onto a long-term investment loan and release additional capital to support future property investments.
Privately owned and managed, the scheme was specifically designed to appeal to the University of Birmingham’s large international student population. Located in the shadow of Old Joe, the University’s iconic and imposing clock tower, the property benefits from an exceptional location and offers a standard of accommodation significantly above much of the local market, with spacious studio apartments, extensive communal facilities and a high level of security.
The property was fully let with a strong rental history, supported by consistent demand from overseas students seeking premium accommodation close to campus. Given the quality of the asset, its proven income profile and the strength of the underlying student market, we were able to arrange a long-term refinancing solution that repaid the existing development debt while providing a capital raise for future growth.
This transaction demonstrates how we are able to support experienced property investors transitioning from development finance to long-term investment funding, whilst unlocking equity to help facilitate their next acquisitions.
